Pickles In My Future

“I think that there are pickles in my future. Not the ‘Ginger and Pickles’ kind, though,” says Daughter.

We are rushing out the door to have some girl time alone and run errands! But, what can I quickly (quickly is the key word here) share with you today on Deep Roots to give a visual affirmation to the beauty of gardening? Well, the Harvest, of course!

Soon we’ll will be making pickles the fermented way, with just brine. That’s sea salt and filtered water. I will share that, too…in a day or two.

So what is ‘Ginger and Pickles’? One of the dear children’s stories (Adults love them, too.) by Beatrix Potter. It was written in 1909.

We didn’t get a garden in this year, much to my chagrin! However we are buying fresh produce and trying to preserve some of it! I am interested in how you do your pickles. I’ve never done pickles before and would like to see how you do this the fremented way.

I am so eager to learn how to do fermented pickles! Thanks for the opportunity! Being a visual learner, the cookbooks just aren’t clicking for me and I don’t feel comfortable making them.

P.S. Beatrix Potter is a favorite illustrator in this home :)

P.P.S. I have the same white wire basket and love it! :) We use it for everything over here…

How fun…I’m looking forward to learning how to make pickles. :-) I love your how-to posts, so much in fact that I copy them into a Word document for further learning and enjoyment!

Hope you both had a special time together and that its raining there. God bless your day with His smile, friend!

My grandmother used to make pickles in brine in old crocks. Good luck to you with yours!

      Hi, Charlotte :)
We went to get specific groceries at Trader Joe’s, to Joanne Fabrics for some bias tape to edge a cute apron pattern she is working on, and to get an article on my husband’s 91 y.o. father laminated. It was a good day, and we had a beautiful visit together. Oh, I forgot…we made hard-copy prints of over 450 photos to complete albums (over 2 years worth of pictures). The rest are on the computer. There are running albums we started years ago when our babies were born. :) The pickles are in the brine and fermenting as of this morning :)
      Blessings,
      J

Because of the excessive heat this year, we are only getting a few cucumbers. We will not have enough to can.

    • Jacqueline says:

Debbie, I’m sorry they didn’t come on for your…I wish I could next day air some to you ;) Some of ours were bitter due to the high temperatures.
