Girl Reading in a Sunlit Room by Carl Vilhelm Holsoe
Some days taking “delight in the Lord” is easier than others.
Today might have become one of those “other” days — it is terribly dry, and there has been no rain to speak of for over 6 weeks.
My dear friend and sister-in-love is fighting liver cancer on the other side of the US, and I can’t see her.
My dear husband’s father is 92, needs ’round the clock care, but the money is running out.
We are still working to finish construction here, and we moved in four years ago!
The last cutting of hay in the field (our main income right now) is stunted from no rain.
Summer’s produce is needing attendance, and it feels like I have done the same thing a hundred times. But as I laid my hand to the paring knife, I had a epiphany of sorts. Shame on me that it had to be an epiphany!
There’s so much to take joy in about the Lord!
Finding joy can be as simple as accepting His goodness and blessings toward me in spite of where I’ve been. I have to take my eyes off all the weaknesses and wrong thinking that He’s been dealing with in my life and raise my hands in praise. On this kind of day, I must ask in simple faith for Him to open my eyes to the truth.
Why should I allow myself to get caught up in depressing introspection when there’s all this beauty and glory and mind-blowing truth right in front of me?
So I decided to delight myself in the Lord…
…and dance to the music He has given~
…and pick the lone rose awaiting an admirer~
To revel in those who are closet to me~
To be thankful for the produce that grows in the garden~
To be amazed at created light in the lens of my little camera* and the sweet-tart candy growing right outside my door~
That’s when Joy comes in like a flood.
“Delight yourself in the Lord;
And He will give you the desires of your heart.”
“Let those who delight in my righteousness shout for joy and be glad and say evermore, “Great is the LORD, who delights in the welfare of his servant!” ~Psalm 35: 27
How are you delighting in the Lord today?
